Frequently asked questions

No, the fabrics we use can’t resist a direct hit by a pointed blade, but they will help mitigate some of the force behind an attack, and potentially reduce injuries. The only way to properly protect against stabbing is to wear body armour.

As this isn’t practical on a daily basis, Salus Clothing was developed to provide the next-best protection. Slashing injuries are actually more common and can be more rapidly dangerous. The layer of Cut-Tex Pro within Salus garments is proven to resist a slashing knife blade, protecting the skin from even a shallow cut.

The fabrics we use are designed to be slash-proof, cut resistant, bite resistant, puncture resistant, abrasion resistant, flame resistant, water resistant, antimicrobial and exceptionally durable.

The clothing is military-grade and is manufactured by the suppliers to the British Armed Forces.

The full protection is only gained when both fabrics are used together: the Cut-Tex Pro lining and the SuperFabric outer shell.

We use two cutting edge fabric technologies to provide unrivalled protection. SuperFabric is renowned for its robust durability which it provides thanks to hundreds of tiny protective plates. This not only ensures it’s extremely resistant to abrasion and wear, but also provides protection against puncture, fire, stains and microbes (which cause mould, mildew and odour). The tiny gaps between the hard plates make the fabric uniquely flexible and breathable whilst a water repellent treatment further protects the wearer.

SuperFabric itself provides a level of resistance against sharp edges, but it’s the Cut-Tex Pro lining which delivers real protection. With the highest Level 5 rating of cut protection, it’s five times more effective against a blade than kevlar. Even when a knife is pressed with force against the fabric, it will not cut.

Initially inspired by the need for truly protective streetwear, Salus Clothing was created to offer a defence for civilians against the dangers of modern life. However, the range lends itself extremely well to protective workwear too – particularly useful for high-risk industries such as factory workers, security staff, glaziers, fishermen, police, outdoor expeditioners and front line emergency responders.

Salus Clothing was designed to protect innocent civilians against knife crime, violence and any other dangers that come from the streets or the workplace, so our intention is the complete opposite. We can’t stop people using Salus Clothing for the wrong purposes, just as we can’t stop individuals using knives as weapons rather than as tools.

However, Salus Clothing is designed to save lives. In itself, it is not a weapon, but if it stops deaths on the streets of any individuals, gang related or not, that has to be a positive legacy for our brand. We can only hope that if people feel protected against harm, there will be even less reason to carry weapons on our streets.
